Welcome to Switzerland!

 

If YOU came to my website and want to learn Swiss German (Dialect), then it can only mean that YOU're in this amazing country, Switzerland. Staying in german-speaking part of Switzerland doesn't necessarily require learning the local dialect, but if YOU've decided in its favour, I will try to help YOU!

 

I am a simple Ukrainian girl and have lived in Basel-City since 2012. During this time I've noticed, got used to and started learning Swiss German. And now I love it! I have started with learning Basel dialect, but with time it has transformed more into the Luzern one. 

 

On my website I will try to draw a general picture of Swiss dialects and share with YOU my observations regarding the differences between Swiss and "High" German. But since Basel and Luzern (as well as Aargau) Swiss dialects are the easiest to understand and to learn (and the prettiest), I will give more info on them.

 

Except for rules, grammar and vocabulary, YOU will be able to listen to modern Swiss music of different genres and watch Swiss music videos that may serve as living examples of the use of Swiss German by native speakers. I will provide translations and comments that will shed some light on such material. I will also give references on books that may be helpful to YOU.
